AGS and Helmut Görling will go separate ways in the future. Görling as well as parts of his team will join Herbert Smiths Freehills. The remaining Partners of AGS Legal will carry on with their strategy of cluster formation and independence as an alternative to international major law firms.
“We see our law firm, AGS Legal, as a specialized professional and independent firm as well as an important answer to current market requirements and believe that the need as well as the clients’ desire for such individual and cost-effective services will rise further in the future. AGS offer their clients, especially larger and internationally active medium sized companies, constant contact partners and teams which provide a very high level of service as well as a clear focus and bundled competence within our core competences Investigation/ Compliance, Litigation/Arbitration, Employment Law, Construction, Plant and Engineering as well as Real Estate Law. In most cases, having offices in different locations is not important. It is the individual advice that matters. This is what we stand for and what more and more frequently convinces international company groups. Internationally, we cooperate with competent partners. This can be advantageous compared to working in an international law firm where one is bound to working together with predetermined partners” explains Wendelin Acker.
In the future Jan Kappel will lead the area of Dispute Resolution/Investigation/Compliance and will become Managing Partner. Thereby AGS has inaugurated the generation change. Kappel is for many years known as one of the leading lawyers with regard to Compliance Investigations and Directors’ and Officers’ liability cases. The Investigations and Compliance Team of AGS belongs to one of the most competent teams apart of major law firm teams within the German market (Compliance Law Firm of the Year 2015/2016). AGS is known for its special competence in the field of compliance cases within the fields of construction, plant and mechanical engineering as well as within the field of real estate. In those areas AGS can rely on the expertise of Acker who is one of the most competent lawyers in the field of construction and real estate law in Germany. Apart from Jan Kappel and Wendelin Acker Philipp Kärcher (Directors’ and Officers’ liability/Corporate Governance/Compliance), Oliver Zöll (Internal Investigations/Data Protection/Compliance in relation to Employment Law) as well as Jan Ehling (Internal Investigation/Fraud Litigation/Corporate Defense) will take on more active leading roles. Apart from the representation of companies who suffered damages, AGS will focus on the representation of companies within criminal proceedings (Corporate defense).
